If you're finished your game/not playing/it's the final and your team isn't in it and you're on the sideline and there's a big game being played what should you do:
A) Gather your belongings and start heading home, after all your assignment on the nesting behaviour of the fleas of Egypt is due in just over a week.
B) Bring pom-poms and yell encouragement to the team you're going for while being careful not to be too loud in case it disturbs the other team.
C) Yell friendly abuse at anyone on the field who you think deserves it whether they do or not.
D) Turn on your Gameboy only to be ambushed by a wild Pikachu in long grass. You foolishly play your Squirtle only to find out that electricity and water don't really mix.
E) All of the above
If you answered anything but "C) Yell friendly abuse at anyone on the field who you think deserves it whether they do or not" you were wrong.
That's right. Start practising your warcry. Start watching some Will Ferrell Movies. Get good at hurling things, namely abuse. Watch Randy Marsh at the little league games in South Park.
And while all this is going on, you can help those "special few" who are still playing, who are in a grand final by playing another game with them called "fantasy ultimate". This game seems to have fallen out of favour a little bit in some snooty Australian ultimate circles, probably due to my article on UltiPorn all those months ago which broke front page on many well-known Ultimate blogs across the globe. But it is still acceptable. Here is a good link to the rules. http://www.mit.edu:8001/activities/ultimate/flu/flu.html.
Now obviously they're a little out of date because they don't include many Townsville Crowd favourites like behind-the-back bingo (completely successfully recently at the K&Q Hat - need a new name for it), flicks thrown through the legs from a backhand stance, Stationary Village, or high-release forehand field length hucks otherwise known as FHUCKS to name but a few. These are all considered multipliers of a thousand. No, but seriously they're probably worth more cause they're cooler.
But that's beside the point. Bring your best slanderous insults to the games each week! I'll see you tonight!

Excellent article!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite heckles:
- After a player A makes a mistake - 'Hey 'Random player on player As opposition', just let player A get it, it's your safest bet for an easy turn!'
- After Finny makes a throwaway - 'Hey Finny, you throw like Hugh'
- After Hugh makes a throwaway - 'Hey Hugh, you throw like Finny'
- sarcastic encouragement after a drop, especially if it was a one handed attempt.
- Huuuuuuuuuuuuugh Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh
- Yelling 'gratuitious' for anything awesome.
