Round 3

Round 3 - By new blogger The Decoy.

Hot on the heels of a scorching Round 2, Round 3 promised hard fought, intense games. With everyone now schooled in the art of ‘disc’, Round 3 certainly delivered on its promises, bringing a new level of play to Townsville Ultimate. As ever, a great turn out and unquenchable team spirits brought out the best in all the teams, and each game was a spectacle in its own right.

Field One saw the Rojo Raptures make war against the Ogres. With both teams coming off victories in Round 2, it was obvious they were both keen to keep their streak going. Despite some excellent support play, and consistent determination, the Raptures proved too nimble for the Ogres to crush. For their part, the Rojo Raptures made excellent use of their handlers, and were able to exploit the pinpoint accuracy of their throws to great effect. A decisive 13-3 victory to the Rojo Raptures over the Ogres.

Rojo Raptures MVP:

Nick & Monica

The Ogres MVP:

Carlos & Echo

On Field 2, A Knife In The Dark brought their best to bear against the mighty Purple Cobras. Brandishing the blade quickly, AKITD tore ahead with a series of quick points. Not to be shanked so easily, the Cobras deflected the Knives’ thrust, leading from half 7-6. Despite rallying around a rousing warcry, and a late game comeback, AKITD was unable to match the Purple Cobras’ lightning fast and deadly accurate short throwing game. A hard fought, but well-deserved 13-11 win to the Purple Cobras over A Knife In The Dark.

Purple Cobras MVP:

Dane ‘Guy-in-Yellow-Shorts’ West & Caitlin

A Knife In The Dark MVP:

Aaron Patterson & Amy

Meanwhile… Field 3 saw the Tie Die Hards pitted against the Blue Sharks. With Sharks’ co-captain James David out for this round, the Tie Die Hards may have come to the game expecting a walk through the park, or perhaps, a safe stroll into the sea? Alas, no! Well, not entirely. The Blue Sharks gave a good showing, not letting the Tie Die Hards blow them away, but unfortunately went down to a cohesive and coordinated team. Tie Die Hards de-finned the Blue Sharks 13-8, despite the best efforts of MVPs Deanna Finn (heh, get it?) and Peter.

Tie Die Hards MVPS:

Finny, Cooper & Lisa

Blue Sharks MVPS:

Peter & Deanna

And all this time, Field 4 was witness to the effervescence (try saying that holding your tongue!) of 7-Up against Bob’s Team’s err… unpunability… A spirited bunch, that Bob’s Team. Despite being down a man, Bob’s Team managed to give a good showing to the lustrous 7-Up, not letting them run away with the game. Not quite a seven-up victory, the win does indeed go 13-7, to 7-Up, over Bob’s Team.

7-Up MVP:

Ian & Sarah C

Bob’s Team MVP:

Matt & Ellie

And so ends Round 3… The landscape of the teams shifts again, but always remains subject to change. With victories won, and lessons learned, it’s important to hold tight to that team spirit. Ever elusive to define, it’s team spirit that keeps us fighting on when the score looks grim, and a comeback seems nigh impossible. Stick together, teach each other terms, and practice throws together! Being able to trust each other on the field is what separates a great team from a good team.

True throws, and may the wind not screw you over,

The Townsville Villain.

Crazy Nuts!

Look, it's getting tough figuring out scores and shit! But remember! Wednesday Night is the frickin' league final! We've got the Racist Dropbears squaring off against the Redcoats (The Fraternal Order of Red)! We're hoping this game will be a cracker and that you crackers are down there for the barbie, cheap piss, and the heckling. Mike's team will be the obvious underdogs coming into this game (NOooootttT!) and we Australians love to cheer for the underdog. So get your red shit together for this top match. Also remember to bring along some gear to play in as there's gonna be a second field set up for a pickup match on the side (a bit like having salad on the side with a steak - it's nowhere near as good as the steak, and mostly kind of pointless, but it still happens somehow).

Anyway see you all there kids. The results will eventually go up when I'm more sober.
