Week 1 - Finals

After a weeks break from league, it was finals time. Where every point matters, every catch dropped and loose throw is counted. Being the first final with eight teams made the finals series very interesting as each team knew days before the match up who they would be playing. Everyone had their own opinion on the matter and it was interesting to see who would come out on top and make it through to the Semi-Finals of the Townsville Ultimate Championships.

In the first match up The Sharks took on The Ogres in a thriller. On the ladder coming into the finals, both teams were tied on the same amount of wins and losses. The Sharks took the early lead and both teams were close throughout the contest. However, it was the Sharks who came out on top in the end, putting it down to experience and defence. Sharks through to the Semi-Finals 13-10.

In the second match up, the Rojo Raptures squared off against the Purple Cobras. In what seemed to be a good match up, it was known that Dane and Cody would not be taking the field. In a steam roller of a match, the Rojo Raptures quickly ended any dreams the Purple Cobras had of an upset and went straight through to the Grand Final qualifier. Rojo Raptures with the win 13-6.

In the second match up, the hotly contested Mad Hatters were beginning to find some form towards the end of the season. However, they were faced with a hard task of Finny’s Tie Dye Hards. The Tye Dye Hards made quick work of the Mad Hatters through simple possession and patience with the disc. Tie Dye Hards through to the Semi’s with a win over Mad Hatters 13-6.

Lastly it was A Knife In The Dark who came up against Yellow Snow. In the previous week, Team Captain of Snow, Shelby Jones suffered an ankle injury and rumour had spread that he would not be playing. After a close first half, AKITD took it out and both teams were square on 11 a piece. However, it was AKITD who came out on top in thriller 13-11.

The draw for next week will be put up in the next couple of days and we will see some enticing match ups. The Championship will now be constested by the following four teams:

Tie Dye Hards
Rojo Raptures
A Knife in the Dark
The Blue Sharks

With a few upsets so far, who knows which teams will make it into the Grand Final. Will be great to see the matches next week! Also, to those teams who did not make the Semi’s, your team will still be playing for placings, so come along and bring your boots!

The lower pool will consist of these teams:

The Ogres
Yellow Snow
Purple Cobras
Mad Hatters

In the weeks to come they will battle it out to see who fights for fifth! and who gets spanked to win the Wooden Spoon!

In addition, MVP’s are still being counted and the scores are close for both Male and Female MVP. So keep and eye out...

Happy Throwing!

The Townsville Villain.
