Apologies for the late write-up, now we will do our best to swamp everyone with the week's worth of blog posts spread out over one day while ignoring uni for far too long before more finals games take place in less than 24 hours.
Game 1
Game 1 was much of a formality but what was not a formality was the serious chance of an upset from any team coming into this game. Alas that was not to happen and each game played out to the rankings coming into this round. The closest 2 ranked teams Lairy Canaries and Ginger Ninjas still ended up with the higher seed on top.HMF 9 d. Disc Jockeys 5
Tytans 9 d. Tie-Dye Another Day 6
Black Panthers 10 d. White Savages 8
Green Machine 10 d. Albino Rhinos 4
Lairy Canaries 10 d. Ginger Ninjas 6
Game 2.
While HMF and Tytans relaxed on the central field, with some stubbie guts hiding their fear behind laughter and too afraid to face off before their foolishly "assumed" Grand Final appearances, the rest of us had games to take care of. Both BYE teams looked anxious and their players were behaving in ways that can best be described as "drunk" and "fearful", and they also smelt like homeless people.
Tie-Dye Another Day 9 d. White Savages 8
Tye-Dye brought it all out this game to move out of their low placing and gave it a serious crack. Looks like the White Savages weren't giving in either but their recent form may have just given them doubts in the tighter moments. Tie-Dye if given another semester to tighten the rubber bands they used to make their shirts could potentially give many more teams a run for their money and this late game is their way of saying that to the other teams. A close attempt by the White Savages, they're going to wish they won as they'll be facing an overexcited DJ's in their next game, the "other one" everyone remembers forever!Albino Rhinos 8 d. Disc Jockeys 5The closer rankings of these two teams was sure to produce a slightly more satisfying result for the Disc Jockeys, but it looks as though the Rhinos showed their true calibre, perhaps a little late. This game was targetted as being a good chance at the Disc Jockeys'
Lairy Canaries 10 d. Green Machine 4
The Green Machine was looking a bit dusty tonight, long in need of a waxing, while their opposition in this Quarter Final, The Canaries seemed chirpy. Green Machine had some good offensive moments threatening with some flicks off the Dunc and some well timed shots from Geoff Couper to the girls deep. A change in force from the Canaries, began shutting off the Dunc's flick option and then the female Canaries went on some full field runs taking it up the field singlehandedly. Sally was threatening from the Green Machine with some long cuts, but not every option paid off.
Ginger Ninjas 8 d. Black Panthers 4Semi final two of the night saw the daunty Black Panthers take on the Ninjas. The Panthers have been one of the least favoured to play against teams this semester with good reason. They must have forgotten to tell the Ninjas this as all they could think of was getting through to the Semis. Even the Panthers facepaint wasn't working. The last game running of the night which managed to gather it quite a crowd. We saw the longest point in history with both teams getting excited like a teenage boy alone in a bed with a pretty girl and things just not going to plan. Many many questionable options were taken and those questions were quickly answered with a "Yes, that was a terrible idea" but the point was nonetheless exciting. Brigi Palatino was everywhere on the field that point compiling a highlight reel of her own. Peter Roach unfortunately was the teenage boy of the Black Panthers letting the white disc fly all over the playing field! Let's just hope he can shake those nerves before the honeymoon not too far down the track!!! Best of luck Peter! A riotous upset by the Ginger Ninjas giving them a semi final berth they must have thought shattered only a game earlier.
This Wednesday History will remember those in the wooden spoon-off and those who missed out on the Grand Finals. Our hearts will remember the rest. Be merry and prepare to relax after the games! Bring along a drink or two to enjoy with your team after last game (not an official endorsement of drinking by this club)! Enjoy responsibly!
Drink or twelve did you say? I shall oblige you good sir!
