Round 3 Results

After a rained out Round 2, the draw skipped ahead to Round 3 match-ups once the sun returned which provided some well-matched games for teams to test their skills during their second game!

Black Panthers 13 d. Ginger Ninjas 12

Criegan's team looked strong on the night, partly due to their intimidating black outfit and partly due to their size. With most teams containing smaller numbers and far less subs, the Black Panthers were about 14-strong giving them a bit of a fitness advantage in the early weeks of semester. Though the Ginger Ninjas weren't undermanned themselves it still may have given that edge to tip out the Gingas...OR maybe it was purely due to newly engaged Peter gaining some extra strength from his recent marriage proposal! Congrats again!

Tytans 13 d. Lairy Canaries 12

A trade to give the White Savages a boost to their currently depleting leadership ranks, star player and Rookie of the Year from last Semester Damon, was traded for an absentee from the other team, resulting in a no-subs look for the males on Lairy Canaries. Matching up against the returning-player heavy side the Tytans, lead by Dave Dehollander and with Sammy J strengthening the girls, it seemed unfair, but results show it was tightly contested and the Lairies continually brought their deficit back to nearly take the game away from the Tytans. "Springs" otherwise known as Justin was a standout with a great aerial grab over both the tall Max and the sheer brute force and speed of Josh both from the Lairies, earning "Springs" his nickname from the Lairies for the rest of the game. Jacqui from the Lairies had a standout game for the girls scoring a number of goals during the game. The end point came from a relatively undefended run from Carlos and Dave on the final point after a gruelling 2 - 2.5 hour battle that was almost gifted to them by the tiring opposition squad. A scoober from Carlos to Dave sunk the the Lairies at the end.

Hyper-Masculine Feminists 13 d. Green Machine 8

The red team! What more to say. Lead by the controversial Mike Larson, this team will be an interesting one to watch throughout semester. Already informed by their captain to be prepared to receive no cheering if they make the finals, the Hyper-Masculine Feminists are not going to be an easy push-over with their high intolerance of the male race. Though losing a tidy pick-up in Owen with height and playing ability also to the White Savages, they are still surely going to find a way to the finals, or Mike Larson's name is not Mike Larson! The Green Machine this week were a little bit short on their experienced players with a couple of key ones missing, but still held on to go down fighting with a not too shabby 8 points.

White Savages 13 d. Disc Jockeys 3

The White Savages were almost a completely new look tonight with the addition of Damon and Owen and the return of Tim Roland to the field after some improvements to his crushed toe. Though they were another team with low numbers, this time there was strength in "low" numbers because of the experienced line they had available. A crushed toe was never going to be enough to stop Tim's return, his addiction to the sport and foolhardiness would surely get in the way of anything sensible like that! The Disc Jockeys seem to have had a rough night, only converting 3 points. The team they were playing however currently contains the three names above and Bobby currently who departed today on his around the word Adventure, but who in the following weeks is being replaced by the new recruits. Perhaps some good D points will return the drive to the Disc Jockeys next week after a slightly demoralising round against a tough opponent containing some competitive guys and girls...

Tie-Dye Another Day 13 d. Albino Rhinos 12

Perhaps they spent too long in the sun over the weekend but the Albino Rhinos just couldn't pull through with the win in this one, despite having a reasonably strong line up of returning players. Tie-Dye Another Day however may have found their one, two or quick give and go option in newly returned Damo who is quickly grasping the face pace of the game after not too long playing. The Albinos with ET threatening deep all night had Finny run ragged by the end and opting for the "I'm just gonna mark you deep every time" option.
