Results - Final Round Robin games

The last night of Round Robin games before finals begin!

Game 1

Lairy Canaries 8 d. Disc Jockeys 4
Questions about the Disc Jockeys' struggles were answered this game when they came out with a strong offense and Matty looking unstoppable. Zone defense from both teams mixed things up to see some good performances with players stepping into new roles on the field with Jacqui of the Lairies looking extremely comfortable as a wing-handler! Both teams managed to breeze through the opposition's zones and overcame the learning hurdle which is often the main factor in a zone on the windless nights in Townsville.

Hyper-Masculine Feminists 8 d. Tytans 6
A fierce match-up for the last week of games, top ranked Tytans vs. second ranked HMF. HMF are finding some rhythm and may be difficult to stop in the lead up to the finals. Tytans were unfortunately knocked off their perch this time. In their first match-up who knows what the true ranking of these two teams really is. Both teams claim it was a two player team that they played against with the Simon-Mike show versing the Dave - Carlos spectacle. If they both make the Grand Final it'll be interesting to watch.

Green Machine
8 d. Albino Rhinos 6
A fierce effort by the Albino Rhinos against the steam-rolling Green Machine. The Green Machine seem to be having a good run of luck. Are they a finals contender or is it just that, luck? Will someone put a stop to them? This guy is willing to have a crack at the Green Machine and his Co-President.

Black Panthers 7 d. Tie Dye Another Day 4
Black Panthers have a gun line-up and are one of the most underrated teams in the top 4. This team, if they can organise the troops, are looking dangerous. Tie Dye's effort to get some points on the board is more likely an indication of what the Panthers didn't do rather than what the Tie Dye's did well. Matching the Black Panthers' deep line of players would have been hard with the undermanned Tie Dyes.

Ginger Ninjas 10 d. White Savages 1
This scoreline indicates A FLOGGING. White Savages looked extremely good on paper but must be languishing near the bottom of the ladder after this performance. The 2 of the best players from HMF and the Lairies went to strengthening this squad after the early pull-out by America Phone Home Bobby, who has gone on a world tour. Perhaps it is a lack of moral support doing them in, or perhaps just silly drops. Tim Roland, Mr. Injury and the official captain of the team stayed home to post youtube videos on facebook, this does not bode well for team morale. Ginger Ninjas are finding some excellent form at the right time and are a real danger of sneaking their way to a semi final berth.

Game 2

Black Panthers 10 d. Disc Jockeys 1
Once again, no mercy from the black pussy cats. They come out guns blazing and if you are caught off guard you've got a fat chance of coming back. Disc Jockeys unlucky enough to have to match them just when they seem to be working through some of the kinks. Whoever has this team next week I wish them luck.

Albino Rhinos 10 d. White Savages 5
Albino Rhinos get a convincing win here over the White Savages. Captain Chris Ende has toned back the flick hucks and was playing to strengths in this win learning the negative effect of a few turnovers as the main handler on the team. A timely lesson it seems.

Hyper Masculine Feminists 8 d. Ginger Ninjas 7
According to word of mouth this was another Simon-Mike show, what else does team HMF have on offer, or are other great performers being swept under the rug by jealous opposition? Who knows what devastation the Ray Brigade unleashed this game or the last with all this 2 man team talk! What about the girls? Mike's teams in the past have featured heavily on well-drilled female scorers and all round disc movement! Well they did play to their female strengths with a good ratio of female HMFers challenging the Ginger Ninjas to play a woman down and these girls presented many good offensive options. The Ginger Ninjas had some great mid field plays and worked the disc around well, with many of their girls outclassing Red on offense to get open. HMF were in front early and were up 8-3 but Gingers brought it back to 8 - 7 with one of these points an excellently weighted deep huck from Ash to Danny who raced Simon deep and beat him to score. Timecap was the real winner as the Gingers just ran out of time. By all accounts said to have been a great game!

Lairy Canaries 7 d. Tie Dye Another Day 5

A friendly match-up against two teams taking it easy for the night. Tie Dye Another Day struggled to get seven on the line at game start with many players nursing injuries. At an unspoken mutually agreed halftime by both exhausted teams after a long point, Tie Dyes were given the chance to nurse their injuries and both teams took to the field with 6 players, with Lairies dropping a guy to keep things fair and to give the Lairy guys the full game experience for once by having to sub. The Lairies had another shot at their 6-player, captainless win of the week before and displayed their natural flair for understanding a new sport, however this time around those few points were not a charm and the Tie Dyes caught up. The match-up of the night was definitely the Kellie (Lairies) - Amber (Tie Dyes) one with Amber just being the Tie Dyes scoring machine despite Kellie's flawless efforts on defense. After a few close points scored by soldering iron-hands Amber, Kellie shifted the momentum back to the Lairies with a good block or two and a memorable endzone catch.

Tytans 7 draw Green Machines 7
The Tytans would have entered this game demoralised after their loss to HMF, but assuredly this was not the only factor in the tight end score to this game. Green Machine as mentioned have been on a winning spree the last few weeks which we are yet to see the end of. Deanna Finn when committed to it is usually an unstoppable female component of the team and like her off-field personality this is easy to take advantage of (just joking Dee, GEEZ!). Green Machine also features the wiley Tom Felix of french origin. Being French does not seem to inhibit this speedster on the field and he is fast adapting to the game and would have been an easy target in the endzone. The Tytans dependence on Carlos and Dave for the big plays in the earlier games may be coming back to bite them with other teams now matching them on a team scale but this would just be speculation. A tight match-up from two good teams showing that the Grand Final is still up for grabs by any teams willing to give it a chance.

That is all I have time for for the post game "analysis" this week based on very little actual facts which were spread through 10 games of frisbee. Hope you enjoy.

Keep posted for the Finals Format being posted later today.
