Week 6 Results

In what seemed to be a turn around, it was discussed that zone would no longer be played on Wednesday night league nights before play. It was up to the captains to determine what type of defence and offence would best suit their style of play. After a ladder was put up last week, it showed how tight the teams all were and proved how vital every win was. However, each win should not come at the cost of losing team spirit.

The Purple Cobras took on the Mad Hatters in a match to last the ages. With the return of Bobby Jackson, the Mad Hatters looked promising and did not let down. Several longs plays saw the game on Universal point with nothing separating the teams after 24 points. However, it was the Purple Cobras who came away with the win in a close finish, 13-12. With Mad Hatters chasing a long awaited victory, their team is looking to ripen with potential just in time for finals. Look out!

In the second game, the Rojo Raptures took on the Blue Sharks. In a stunning turn of events, in point 3, Captain America had to leave the field through injury, leaving Team Plus 1, to replace him. With Simon’s pinpoint throws, he dominated possession and took over the game, allowing no breathing space for the Sharks to work with. Rojo Raptures with a decisive victory 13-7.

Team Yellow Snow were looking to get a solid win on the board and cement themselves in third spot. This week they faced a Knife in the Dark and their task was always going to be challenging. Foot blocks aplenty, the game was a thriller and it was great to see two of the games high flyers in Hugh and Shelby match it with each other. A close game with some great highlights, Yellow Snow takes out the win 13-8.

In the final game the Ogres took on the undefeated Tie Die Hards. After a continuous roll of wins, the Tie Die Hards were rolling off confidence galore as someone is yet to stand in between Captain Finny and the coveted League Cup. In what looked to be an easy decisive win to the Tie Die Hards, the Ogres mounted a mini comeback in the second half and nearly pulled of the win. However, it was the Tie Die Hards who finished strong and brought it home 13-8.

With only one more week of round robin, each team must cement their place as high as they can on the ladder to ensure a good finals run. It is imperative to ensure that all players turn up to games, as substitutions will be crucial. As we face the home straight, we must ask ourselves...

Will Finny and the Tie Die Hards make it all the way to the coveted cup? Or will their Dream run end just short...
Will the Mad Hatters finally reach their potential in time for the finals?
Will the Purple Cobras start their dominance over a great win this week?
Will the Rojo Raptures ensure the fitness of their captain before finals and continue on their run?
Will the Blue Sharks finally taste glory after 2 seasons?
Will Hugh lead a Knife in the Dark on the road to the Holy Grail?
Will team Yellow Snow benefit from the American imports they purchased at the start of the season?
Or will the Ogres finally string some wins together and become a dominant force in the league...

All these questions will be answered come finals time, and the league is looking to be hotting up. I can’t wait for finals!

  1. Interesting write-up. However, it should be noted James that some of the brilliance of the Tie-Dye Hards' name comes from the play on words in using tie-dye (also their shirt design) combined with Die Hard, a name made famous from the Bruce Willis action movie series. The way it's being written "Tie Die Hards" does not imply the same play on words relating to the fact the team wears tie-dye. Just putting it out there. Keep up the great work!
