In all my semesters of playing Frisbee (3), I would easily say this has been the biggest and most successful Townsville Ultimate Frisbee season in history. In the first week we had over 80 people show up, to chance their hand in the worlds greatest game, and before the league started we had an outstanding number of people turn up. Thanks to these numbers, Townsville Ultimate could finally achieve the goal of having 8 full teams with reserves.
With 8 teams in the tournament it was great to see everyone participating and continuing to show up. The training at the start of the season was awesome and a big thank-you goes out to all the seasoned veterans who gave up their playing time to help out the new up and comers.
As each team formed, we saw the “Blue Shark” influence take over the tournament, as each team began wearing team uniforms, showing up early, having war cries and chants and even organising social events outside of league. Each team had their own way of playing and this added an element of surprise every week.
Throughout the league, the Tie Dye Hards became the early favourites going undefeated in the first 7 matches, going into the last match undefeated however losing to Yellow Snow. This left the Tie Dye Hards tied with the Rojo Raptures on the top of the table.
As the finals continued, an upset in the form of AKITD defeating Yellow Snow complicated the finals series leaving Sharks, Tie Dye Hards and Rojo Raptures to battle it out for the Grand Final spot. However, the season ended with the top two teams of the competition to battle it out.
In what seemed to be a tight match, Tie Dye Hards came away with the win and prized Townsville Ultimate Disc cup.

I would just like to take this time to thank everyone who contributed to this season and who took the time to make an effort to come down every week and make league what it was. I hope this is just the beginning, and hopefully next season it will be bigger and better again.
