Matt Anscomb - does he really want to drift away into Ultimate oblivion and be remembered by this photo only?
Most of you probably don't know Matt Anscomb, but he is a fine Townsville fellow who a while ago retired from Ultimate and who since then I have been carefully trying to coax back in to playing. He is old, that is why we want him back. He has years behind him and some knowledge. That is what makes this photo fun to look at. Go to the Brisbane Blog and click on the label Townsville and what you will find is Matt A making the 2000's seem like a very long time ago. He is sporting some embarrassing-looking tiny footy pants. Very unultimate of you Mr. Anscomb. Will he stop being so whipped and return to the field? Does he want this to be the way his Ultimate Glory is remembered? Or should it be the way he partied at Kaimana or trained hard for everything? Will he ever face these questions? Only time will tell...only time will tell.

Brisbane finds out about Townsville Blog
JdR has discovered us. The secret ramblings of Townsville's Ultimate Blog which is sometimes about ultimate is now uncovered to the entire Brisbane community and those connected to it. Scary. Anyone interested in adding a few thoughts to it should get in touch with me. Any Audrey Siples out there should also start typing, the eyes of the world are now on you. For some reason they also think that the blog is written by some Hugh character? Not so, my dear Brissie friends, not so...it is actually written by.....TOMSTEVE!
Ok not really. But that would be fun I think. Perhaps I will recruit him.

Ultimate Frisbee in Townsville
If you're interested in playing this Ultimate Frisbee in Townsville then we are looking for YOU! While it is the university holidays we are currently playing twice a week with one afternoon being team training. We meet at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon at Queens Park for a casual game. We also train and play on Wednesday at 5:30 at the Ignatius Park fields.
Join the facebook group Townsville Villains - Ultimate Frisbee Group if you want to receive messages about times we're playing. Request to join the group and leave a message saying you'd like to start playing. Or even better get in contact with Simon Urquhart, simonurquhart2 at gmail dot com to talk directly to someone organising the current games.
Once Uni begins we will also be running our beginner's league. This may be the right way for you to begin playing if you have never played before as we will teach you all about the game from scratch along with plenty of other people new to the game. This league is a lot of fun and you will get to meet a lot of people. Keep checking back for the exact time and date.

Hmmm, what a surprise! Holiday laziness!
Hahaha, aaaaaah. Well I'm thinking, am I allowed to just fill this blog with ultiporn or will someone come along to make me pull all this ultismut off the internet! "Yes, you heard me boy ultismut! I know what you were doin' in your room! And if I catch you looking at that filth again boy, you're gonna meet with some serious punishment! Now get to bed before I have to tell your mother what happened here!!!"
Anyway, I have to laugh because a: the last thing I put up is ultiporn and now this and b: because somehow I missed something the first time which is replayed at the end. There's a few nicely placed large hucks and hammers of pretty decent skill level in there so they make for good ultiporn - makes you fantasise a little bit, that's always key. I might need to change the name of the blog soon to xxxultiporn.com.au. Now I'm probably at risk of having those people come along to shut my shady operation down. Anyway, what a surprise, some more ultiporn from Mr. Lazy here, can't be bothered going to play real Ultimate himself and get some real action.

Holiday inspiration
It's obvious. I am an ulti-porn addict. But seriously watch this highlight video (click link or search youtube for 2007 upa club nationals remixed) I just came across and tell me you lazy Townsville person currently on holidays barely playing any kind of sport that it doesn't make you itch and want to get out and play spectacular amazing ultimate (is that too many adjectives perhaps? nope! cause the last one's a noun). Apart from some real cockiness in the video from a few seppo wankers, most of it appeals to my ultiporn tastes. And now I have to go to bed thinking excited thoughts about getting back out and playing. Sleep will not happen easily tonight.

Audrey Siple - American Correspondent
Introducing to you Audrey Siple, American Correspondent. Over the past few months I have roped Audrey in to write a little for the Townsville Ultimate Blog! I haven't yet seen anything produced but I can guarantee that is what the new year will bring.
Audrey was here in the second semester of 2008 along with close friend Christy "Balls" Johnston from the land of America. She is an American. Both these girls are what I would consider to have been some of the finest already-established female players we've had land on these Townsville shores. I mention Christy because it is likely that any article written by Audrey will be done under the influence of alcohol in the company of Balls. These girls played on Townsville's 2008 entry into Mixed Nationals Hand of God (HoG for short) and were a key part. She is also tied to Hamish Pope, former Townsville Ultimate President and local player for 4 years. He is currently staying with her in America, so expect these three to have their way with the blog.
Audrey is one of the best female players I've ever actually seen play. On a basic level I used her as a scrap collector, collecting many of my errant throws in those days on the red team with Simon...(name eludes me at the moment but one fine looking team), and many of the scars on her arms and legs can be attributed indirectly to me. Apart from the layout catches, she is a great middle player in the stack, always a workhorse, the first person to cut, and who some people look to when in trouble. She even taught me how to throw a high release poppy backhand in the days when I thought throwing was for chumps. I've also seen her sky some of the guys in Townsville (not cool), as well as outrun and catch over some of the male players of the Townsville league (poor bastards). Either we have too many chumps here (quite possible) or she's a strong player (equally plausible). The most important thing I learnt from watching her play though was just the timing on the cuts, never stopping and that having rapport with a player (Balls) can be a huge advantage.
Apart from the obvious skills at the game Audrey is probably one of the most absurd people I've had the pleasure of meeting, so hurry up and write something damnit! The first 2 or more conversations I had with her took place with both of us pretending to be someone else, the first one was a character who did not speak english using only the words "noo" and "si". I took me three conversations to realise that she was to be avoided. At one time when I was quite a mess she had me convinced that Hamish had gone missing and I apparently proceeded to search the house high and low in the hope of finding the poor boy, including under the kitchen sink. Luckily he was found to be safe. Not to mention the much acclaimed welcome/farewell dance that took place with her, Christy and myself.
I look forward to her articles on Hot Girls of Ultimate and one about Fancy Dress in Ultimate or anything else that might be on her mind, even if it is actually about playing ultimate such as Playing Ultimate in America.
Cheers Audrey,
The great thing is you can write whatever you want cause there's only about 3 people that read this! New part: And if you don't write anything I will hate you forever and recruit Balls instead cause she's better at Ultimate and parties anyway!

Meet the Villains
Hey Villains,
Yes that's right you are a Villain! Townsville's Ultimate teams have now had a change of name from Townsville Thor to the Townsville Villains, or The Villains! The men's team has been known as Thor for the past few years but it was resolved, as sad as I am at it's passing (Thor for Life!), that we needed to stamp a new brand on Townsville's teams and hold it strong! There's a plan in place to ensure we always represent our team in the team stripes and look and feel the part!
Kudos to Simon and Mike I think for coming up with the great new name!
REMEMBER VILLAINS: JCU Market Day in O' Week is on the 17th of FEB. We'll need your help recruiting then and before then, so keep an ear out and talk to everyone you meet about getting into Ultimate.
13 - 14th of March is Queensland Regionals down in Brisbane, go to AFDA.com and register to get your AFDA number for registering to Tournaments, insurance and to check out the dates of all competitions. START saving and looking at webjet.com for cheap flights there and back! Accommodation usually comes in the way of kind billets from Brisbane, so never fear, costs aren't too dear!
Much love from this guy:

Internet Interest: Ultimate Frisbee club loses season after nudity
You gotta feel for this American University team. Here's a quote:
Team co-captain Dusty Becker said Monday that while he was sorry, he didn’t see a problem with the team’s recent behaviors.
“Speeding, drinking, nudity they’re not bad things,” he told the executive committee. “They’re things a big portion of the community doesn’t think are wrong.”
He's right. We should send angry letters to the people who made the decision, telling them how angry we are. Someone find their address!

The New Year 2010!
Welcome to 2010! It is the New Year and it will be a good year for Townsville Ultimate, so Happy New Year!
Only a few weeks ago many of the folk who call Townsville home attended our first holiday game of Ultimate which was a success. It was so great to see everyone attend with such enthusiasm even in the light of hangovers from the Saturday night before, lack of fitness since the end of the season and even unsatiated hunger for the barbie after. It was nice to follow the game with a cosy barbie back at our 2 President's, Si and Mike, before we broke up for Christmas!
Preceeding the game people involved or beginning involvement with the committee attended a quick meeting summarising the look of our next year. It was good to see some new faces particularly Sam, Bobby, and Finny.
The meeting was a success with many new things discussed some of the more exciting ideas being a demo game of Ultimate before a Fury match, possible press release of results into the paper, and my favourite, one that I've personally wanted to see for years but which was suggested by male stripper extraordinare, Bobby, a nude calendar of all our hottest frisbee players delivered with the quote "175 grams is all that stands between me and your wildest dream." The only issue being after we fill the first few months with pictures of Bobby, what to do with the rest of the year. Simon's solution was simple: "Kittens in bowls for the last 6 months". Now I really do hope this next semester brings some female calendar interest for everyone's sake.
Oh and a side note: Pretty girls of the past 5 years of Ultimate if you ever get to read this, you know who you are, don't make me name you (if Hamish ever made advances on you then you may or may not fit this description - sorry Auds you can cough it up). But seriously please send any photos suiting the above description involving a disc and themed or unthemed nudity that we could use in our Girls and Guy of Townsville Ultimate Charity Appeal Calendar to our email address on the sidebar or to my own. They will be greatly appreciated. Anyone who is interested also feel free to drop us a line.
All the best for the New Year,
Hugh
