Queensland Regionals 2011
Hey there southern ultimate players of Queensland (oh and Cairns too if you're about) - welcome to 2011 and an invitation to a very first Northern Queensland regionals! This will just be an introductory note about regionals. I hope that everyone is coping ok with the massive floods. I'm pleased to report that tropical Townsville has received no such flooding, though the region has had its share of rain this wet season.
If you need to dry your feet and weren't already coming to Townsville for Regionals on the 19th and 20th of Feb I'd like you to sign up for the event! There will be plenty of teams who would welcome extra players, we'll have a Cairns team taking part for the first time lead by Corey and I believe JdR who may welcome an extra pair of legs, as well as 2 Townsville teams with Tsv 2 welcoming more players and I'm going call it and say Dusty and the gang will be around too! So there it is, plenty of pick-up options. Contact me at one of the below emails if you'd like to find out more, or sign-up on AFDA to the team "Players looking a team" and we'll sort you out from there. A combo team of Townsville/Cairns/Brisbane would be like the lovechild of some attractive celebrity extra-marital coupling such as a Brad Pitt and Miranda Kerr slip-up with genes somehow getting in from Mansauce (via IVF for this guy probs), it would be almost too perfect except for the Mansauce aspects(I have heard of a condition on "weird or what" where 2 eggs are fertilised and merged into one leaving a person with 2 sets of DNA - theirs and their twin's, so it would be plausible to have this 3 way gene set occur). Talk to your fellow players and look into getting a couple of keen people together, the rest will be easy.
Due to the well known fact that it can be quite rainy at this time of year we have gone to the liberty of pencilling in a few different field bookings to ensure we have somewhere to play if one lot of fields becomes too wet or whatever it may be. At the moment our primary field choice (yet to be decided)is Queens Park which is close to the strand and always lush. If you have the energy after the tournament from here you can walk the hill with all the other die hard fitness freaks or wander down to the strand to cool off.
For those who aren't aware the competition has been registered on AFDA now since at least October. We understand that team selections are still taking place but if you're sure that your team will be coming up Captains, please go ahead and register your team. This will help speed up some aspects of organising for us. And don't forget to register yourself if you need a team.
If you'd like accommodation make it known by filling out your details on this spreadsheet. Let me know if it doesn't work. And don't forget to say the same thing on the AFDA rego. The earlier the better.
